Backing up your server with images

Most businesses have some sort of backup system for their server, at least I hope you do! But have you stopped to consider how you will recover your system in the event of a worst case scenario? i.e: complete server data loss, server theft, fire damage etc.

With a worst case scenario, you will most likely be replacing the server with a new one and 99% of the time it will not be the same model of server that you had originally. This means that recovering your system from file backup will be tedious and take a long time.

Ideally, you will want your server back up and running as quickly as possible, right? Of course you do - that way business can continue as normal. The only sure way to achieve this is to take an image snapshot of your server using specialised software.

An image backup allows the server to be restored quickly and even supports restoring to completely new and different hardware.

It is not that expensive to do and will save you a whole lot of stress when the time comes to recover and statistics tell us that every business will experience a disaster recovery at some point in time.

So, make sure your backup system includes an image backup as well as file backup!
